About Brittany Simon, Psy.D. and her independently owned and operated private practice:
Brittany Simon, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who helps children, adolescents, and their families overcome life’s challenges. Dr. Simon specializes in working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Midwestern University. Dr. Simon completed her internship and post doc at a therapeutic day school for high functioning autism.
Dr. Simon has experience working with children and adults with a wide range of issues, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, psychotic disorders, developmental disabilities, sexual and physical abuse, and medical conditions. She has worked in therapeutic day schools, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, a residential facility for adults with mental illness, an outpatient medical clinic, and an inpatient rehabilitation unit. Dr. Simon completed research in the area of relational aggression (e.g. gossiping and spreading rumors) and body image/self-esteem and has worked with pre-adolescent girls to help them develop healthy relationships with others and with themselves.
Dr. Simon believes that the therapeutic relationship is crucial to growth and it is essential to meet the client where they are at. When a relationship is established and clients feel accepted as they are, they can experience a non-judgmental space to share their emotional and behavior challenges. Dr. Simon uses an eclectic approach, which includes cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, and client-centered therapeutic conceptualizations and techniques. She provides individual and group therapy in her privately owned practice.
When working with families who have a child on the autism spectrum, Dr. Simon is able to assist parents with setting rules, encouraging independence, and developing incentive plans to reward children for engaging in positive behavior. She also seeks to help families communicate in healthy ways. Dr. Simon holds family sessions in her office as well. She also works collaboratively with outside providers in order to provide the best care possible.
***COVID-19 response: Dr. Simon is offering tele-therapy during this trying time. She is providing secure video conferencing or telephone therapy so you can still get the support you need from the safety of your home.***
