As a BodyMind Therapy Coach I utilize iRest® Yoga Nidra to help people navigate transitions, manage stress and trauma, find meaning, purpose, passion.

I listen, encourage and ask questions you might not ask yourself. I help you see possibilities and options, overcome obstacles, and restore resilience. I provide space for restoration, and the heartfelt desire of your life to be revealed. You’ll rediscover an inner strength to help you meet each life circumstance with the perfect response.

How does the body enter into all of this? Compared to other cultures, we tend to be less in our body. Our bodies have become hijacked by our thinking minds. I work with therapies that welcome the body as an equal partner with the mind.

What is iRest® Yoga Nidra?

iRest (Integrative Restoration) is rooted in an ancient meditation practice incorporating somatic processes that produce deep relaxation that allow for deep inquiry. Adapted by psychologist and yogic scholar Richard Miller, iRest increases your ability to cope with what life hands you and enriches your sense of well-being. Research has shown iRest alleviates the effects of chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, insomnia, depression and substance dependency.

Designed for both individuals and groups, this profound guided meditation is practiced lying down, sitting, as well as a co-meditation with a facilitator. This practice enables emotions and beliefs to surface and be explored. As a stand-alone therapeutic and coaching process, iRest is also a complementary adjunct program that partners well with traditional and alternative therapies.

 Maria’s Story

My Experience and Training

As a Renaissance Soul it took many years for my interests, talents and passions to come together. Following a long career as an independent professional recruiter for major corporations, I graduated from the Coaches Training Institute to begin my coaching career. Continuing my journey, I became iRest Yoga Nidra Certified. On the adjunct faculty of Harper College in Palatine, IL, since 1997, I currently teach iRest and other courses. I am president and co-founder of the Veterans Restorative Project, a 501(c)3, offering iRest programs to veterans and their families. Since 2001 I have been a staff writer for Yoga Chicago writing the Living in Sync column.

In addition to practicing hatha yoga for over 40 years, I was a principle dancer with the Near East Heritage Dance Theatre for 20 years, under the direction of Barbara Cargill, a Dance Movement and Internal Family Systems therapist. I co-facilitated Natural Chi Movement workshops with Tienko Ting for several years, and presented many movement focused programs for personal growth, health and well-being.
